The great protein bar debate – are they good for you? Should you take them? What should I look for in a bar?
These are questions I get asked all the time. These nutrition bars can be extremely convenient for busy, active lifestyles, but the reality is, we have to be careful when it comes to which ones we are choosing. Eating too many low quality protein bars can quickly sabotage your efforts. There are many bars that are packed with hidden sugars and low-quality protein that contradict our “healthy” intentions.
It is important to note that just because the package or label has the word PROTEIN, does not necessarily mean it is good for you….or even YUMMY!
Now, this being said, I do have favourites that I rely on. These are bars that taste incredible and meet my expectations in terms of their nutritional profiles.
Personally my favorite brands for taste are Quest Bars, Myoplex 30 and OhYeah Victory Bars. These are examples that show it is possible to get all natural protein bars that taste incredible. Just make the right choice and choose the right brands!

I suggest you give those bars a try as a snack in between meals. Make sure they are around 200 calories or less, just like your snacks should be. Also, remember that a protein bar should have at least 15 grams of protein and be relatively low in carbs to avoid insulin spikes that will get in the way of your fat loss goals.
